New Toys

Finally we located a decently priced metal lathe, currently we are milling solid brass tube lugs for our future snares. We recently started building segmented wood hoops and I’ve been screen printing some new hoodies, Still not finished my kit but you know…. it takes time to make beautiful wood crafts.

Building Time!

YESS.. we got some time to get together again and build!! it started with failure but ended in success originally we set out to build just a 20×22 bass drum but our bevel cut was out by .2 of a degree so over 40 cuts we added 8 deg. to our circle.. oh well adjust the saw and re-cut the staves for a rack tom (12 x 12) and while were at it, make another snare with the left over bass drum woods ( 14 x 7) so after every thing was said and done it did end up being a productive day see for yourself:

16 x 16 Floor tom

got the 16 x 16 floor tom glued up today, it brought up a number of challenges though. All i can say is make sure you select your wood better than we did, we ended up taking alot of material off with the plainer and jointer today. All things considered we did end up with a pretty nice shell with very minimal gaps, we will spin this one down next weekend and hopfully glue up the 12″ rack tom, here’s some pics of the progress today

Tuning pointers

My brother and I watched this video about 5 years ago, some really good pointers here, the only problem is…. If you ask 10 drummers how to tune, you will get 10 different methods witch are all correct. Me personally i tune my drums as low as possible with out too many annoying over tones, then i shorten the sustain with the batter side. Remember one of the most important things about playing and instrument, is being able to tune that instrument. how would Iron maiden sound if all their guitars were out of tune with each other? Anyways here’s Dave Weckl (god) on drum tuning:
